Good morning Barbieri Family,
I hope you had a great weekend! It was amazing to see so many of us enjoy the show this weekend! Our students shined bright! What a spectacular show! Please take a look at pictures below!
After much discussion with colleagues regarding the topic of sub plans I thought a friendly reminder would be helpful. Please remember that campus aides/permanent building substitutes DO NOT have access to HMH online or able to view google slides if the link isn't shared "Anyone in FPS can view." When creating subplans please ensure that 'anyone in Framingham can view' is how the documents/slides are being shared as we don't know what colleague will be covering until the morning so we want to be sure anyone can view the subplans. We apprecaite your help with this in advance!
Permanent Building Substitutes/Campus Aides we are are requesting that you bring your FPS issued device to school everyday because you never know if you are expected to cover a class. We can't assume that classroom teachers have left their laptops in the classroom as many of us take our devices home daily. We must come prepared to with our own devices. Thank you so much for your help with this!
Lastly, please take a look at the duty schedule below. Everyone is supporting arrivals and dismissals during the school day.
Cuidense y muchas gracias,
Maria

Meet Our New Humanities Coach, Vikki!
Hi! I’m Vikki Treddin and I am so excited to start working at Barbieri. I worked for 11 years in Boston Public Schools in many grades and roles. The last three years I spent in Milford Public Schools as an ESL teacher. I am a mom of two beautiful children, Elena and Jackson who drive me to be a better teacher and person every day. I can’t wait to meet everyone!

Please review the linked schedule
Please be sure to view the duty schedule. Every staff member has an assigned duty. It is very important that we are all attending to our duties to ensure a correct and safe dismissal. Please review the schedule to see how you're helping during dismissal and arrival each day.

Message sent to families regarding MCAS Testing
NO MOBILE DEVICES DURING TESTING 📱📵⌚
During testing ALL MOBILE DEVICES ARE PROHIBITED. This includes cell phones and apple watches, etc. Please be sure that you discuss with your child that if they chose to still bring these devices to school they will need to give these devices to their classroom teacher/testing proctor BEFORE testing begins and they will receive them AFTER the testing session has ended. This is a non-negotiable. If any device is set off (rings, vibrates, etc.) during testing we risk having to invalidate tests.
Thank you for all of your support at home and for understanding!
No duden en comunicarse con nosotros con cualquier pregunta!🙂

STEAM
The math pilot of two curriculums starts Monday across nine elementary schools! The Barbieri teachers who will be piloting one of the two curriculums are Yolanda, Aracely, Marie, Nicole, and Casey. These teachers will be the voice needed to determine which program is better for our DL program and students. Jocy, Susan, and I will be supporting these classrooms during the three week pilot. In addition, we would love to have anyone who is interested to visit the pilot classrooms! If you are interested in visiting one of these classrooms to see our students engaged in one of these lessons, please email Melissa for more information. Visits will start the week of April 7th.
Check out this math challenge, Diffy Squares! This will engage your students to reason about the strategies they choose to see how many levels they can beat… all while practicing subtraction! The directions can be found HERE, including a video about the Diffy Square Challenge HERE!

Message from Framingham Public Schools Health and Wellness
We are all doing our part to ensure safe, healthy, and welcoming school environment for all. We are doing our best to prevent the spread of COVID-19, common winter illnesses, such as influenza, stomach viruses, and colds in order to protect the health of our students, staff, and community members.
Below are guidelines to help families decide when it is necessary to stay home. If an individual is experiencing any of the following symptoms, we ask parents to keep your child home, and for employees to stay home, for 24 hours after symptoms resolve:
Guidelines for Keeping Sick Children Home From School
Fever – Children should remain at home with a fever greater than 100 degrees. They can return to school after they’ve been fever-free for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol (Acetaminophen) and Motrin/Advil (Ibuprofen).
Diarrhea/Vomiting – Children with diarrhea and/or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
Conjunctivitis – Following a diagnosis of conjunctivitis, children may return to school in 24 hours.
Rashes – Common infectious diseases with rashes are most contagious in the early stages. A child with a suspicious rash should return to school only after a healthcare provider has made a diagnosis and authorized the child’s return to school.
Colds – Consider keeping your child at home if they are experiencing discomfort from cold symptoms, such as nasal congestion and cough. A continuous green discharge from the nose may be a sign of infection. Consider having the child seen by your healthcare provider
Please contact Barbieri's School Nurse Lisa Silverio with any questions at (508) 626-9187

Your child is considered chronically absent if they are missing ten percent or more of their school days. If they are 180 days of school, and they miss 18 days, they are considered chronically absent. Missing this many days of school is the same as missing instruction for the month of November. When students are absent so often, they miss instruction causing them to be academically frustrated when they return. Students need to be in school consistently in order to ensure they are no gaps in their learning.
Based on the guidelines from the Department of Education and Framingham Public Schools, a public school district may excuse up to 7-day sessions or 14-half day sessions in any period of six months.
FPS recognizes that students will, at times, have legitimate reasons to be absent. These reasons are referred to as excused absences and include the following:
● Student illness or injury
● Death in the family
● Observance of a religious holiday
● Court summons (student’s name must appear on the summons)
● School approved activities
● College visits (documentation required)
● Suspension
● Legal, immigration, military or other similar obligations
Click the link for a comprehensive look at the FPS Attendance Handbook.
In order to excuse an absence, a parent/caregiver must email the school/office at barattendance@framingham.k12.ma.us or leave a message on the Attendance Line at 508-626-9187.
For students who are accumulating unexcused absences, student support staff will be reaching out to families by sending a letter, email or phone call. The purpose of this communication is to explore the barriers preventing students from attending school and create a plan for improvement.
If you have any questions regarding our attendance policies or procedures please reach out to the school counselors.
